There are many refugees fleeing their homes around the world, many need help and a place to live that is safe and accepting. Right now, for instance, there are many people leaving Ukraine and Russia to go to other countries and they need help.
Now before this begins article begins I would like to address what a refugee is, first the definition of the word is, “A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.” This means when the refugees escape and leave their country they’re leaving behind their belongings, such as their jobs, home, possessions, and sometimes their family since leaving alone is safer.
Furthermore, when they escape they may not be able to go to another country, the reason for this is most of the places they would flee to won't accept them. Let's take the United States for instance. When refugees come to the U.S people need to run background checks on them with existing information about them. In the end, 1% of refugees are accepted into the United States, most of them are either women, children, or people with disabilities.
Now, let’s get on with the article. The people of Ukraine have fled to many places due to Russia’s violence, and most have fled to Poland. About 3.9 million people have fled, and men between the ages of 18 to 60 have been told to stay back and fight against the Russian attackers.
Although it is devastating people are trying to help. Things that people have been doing for the refugees are giving them money for food and rent, providing beds for people in bomb shelters, and setting up reception and transit points for internally displaced people. It is good that people are doing these things for the refugees and helping them because when you take into account what they have gone through, having to leave behind their sanctuary, their life, and their past, they will not forget their memories and those in some cases can make someone feel homesick, so it’s nice to make people feel a sense of belonging, even if it can’t replace the home they have established.
There are many consequences of leaving your home, and there are many in staying when you are at war, but everyone should be welcomed no matter what race they are and what their circumstance is, therefore it is always good to help someone in need.
